Our client was asleep in the sleeping compartment of a semi-tractor when a single vehicle accident occurred.  They were hauling a load of produce from Riverside, California to the Walmart distribution center in Tomah, Wisconsin. The accident happened approximately 1:00 a.m. The semi driver apparently fell asleep and drove down a large embankment causing the accident. The semi tractor-trailer was completely destroyed in the accident.

A vehicle operated by a driver with failing health, unexpectedly executed a left-hand turn in front of our client and a horrible collision between the two occurred. Our client sustained severe internal injuries, multiple broken bones, road rash and, ultimately, a lower leg amputation.

We represented a 62 year old gentleman after he was struck by a commercial transportation vehicle while crossing in a crosswalk. The client sustained a significant brain injury as a result of this incident. He spent several months in a comatose state and was later transferred to a nursing home to live out his remaining days. A man riding a motorcycle was struck without warning by a 15-passenger van when the van driver ran a red light.  The motorcyclist was rushed to the hospital but did not survive his injuries. 

Our client was a young man that was driving his vehicle for work-related purposes for the restaurant he was employed by. A teen driver fell asleep at the wheel, crossed the centerline, and struck our client head-on at highway speed. Our client sustained severe orthopedic injuries, including a broken leg, a crushed heel, a broken wrist and a cracked jaw. Multiple surgeries were performed, however, the client was left with permanent injuries.

Our client was a hard working construction laborer that was the sole supporter of his young son. While working at a job site, he was struck in the head by a steel beam that was negligently installed by another subcontractor's employee. Cory Whalen represented the heirs and next-of-kin of a 47 year old woman with downs syndrome who was killed in a car crash.  She worked at a licensed daycare training and rehabilitation program that served adults with intellectual disabilities or related conditions such as cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism or traumatic brain injuries.  She used their transportation bus to get around. At the time of the accident she was riding the bus home from work.  There were 7 other passengers on the bus that afternoon.

Our client was severely injured while performing routine maintenance on a hydraulic machine at work. The client sustained substantial physical injuries to his arm and wrist and endured significant pain. Cory Whalen commenced a product liability claim against the manufacturers that designed the defective product in Japan and their stateside distributor in Chicago. The product manufacturer denied liability and disputed jurisdiction in U.S. Courts. However, a mediated settlement in the amount of $400,000 was awarded.

The day after her 85th birthday, our client's independent mother met with tragedy. She was talking with her son and his children in a parking lot; her granddaughter's car was running. Unexpectedly, the vehicle's engine began to rev. As the driver ran to the driver's seat to turn off her vehicle, it suddenly lurched forward. The driver was thrown from the car and her grandmother--who was unfortunately standing in front of the vehicle--was pinned between the vehicle and the car parked in front of it. She crumpled to the ground as they called 911.

A minor child sustained pelvic injuries while a passenger on her friend's go-cart. The driver lost control of the go-cart and struck a tree on the side of the go-cart that our client was sitting on.

Defendant homeowners hosted a 16th birthday party for their daughter at a farm located in rural Wisconsin. The party was attended by many teenagers--including our client. During the party, an ATV was brought to the farm by a neighbor. Many of the teens at the party were operating the ATV. At one point during the evening, the homeowner instructed the teens that the ATV was to be parked. Yet, the keys were not taken out of the ATV nor was it banished from the premises. Later that evening, one of the girls started the ATV and gave a ride to our client. They drove away from the party until they reached the end of the road, then turned around to head back to the party. Another teen had taken a motorcycle from the farm which did not have a working headlight. He was going to look for the girls on the ATV. In the dark, there was a collision between the ATV and the motorcycle and our client, a passenger on the ATV, was seriously injured.

Our client was driving her children home from daycare and school on a clear summer afternoon. A distracted driver failed to stop at a stop sign and struck the client's vehicle in a broadside collision. The collision was of such severity that the client's full size SUV rolled and turned onto its roof. Thankfully, the children were not injured in this tragic collision. Unfortunately, their mother sustained a significant brain injury and was hospitalized for several weeks. Through great care and medical treatment, the client was able to make nearly a full recovery.

Cory Whalen represented a Minnesota State Patrolman injured while on duty. He was responding to an emergency call and struck a horse that was running loose in the roadway. The officer was knocked unconscious and his cruiser was demolished.  He sustained severe facial and head injuries and found his life and his career turned upside-down for a long time as he struggled to heal. 

Our client was in the United States as a foreign exchange student. Unfortunately, she sustained severe orthopedic injuries after being involved in a motor vehicle collision. Her injuries required surgery to correct bone fractures. The case was settled short of litigation in the amount of $275,000 by Cory Whalen.

Our client was being transported by ambulance to the hospital when the ambulance was involved in a crash. Our client was not properly secured inside the ambulance and received serious injuries.

Our client was waiting to turn left at a T in the road when, without warning, a vehicle sped from behind him and crashed in to the rear of his car. The force of the impact knocked our client's car in to oncoming traffic where a semi truck was unfortunately driving by. Our client's vehicle was shoved underneath the bed of the semi truck all the way up to the windshield. Police and ambulance responded to the accident to assist our client and extricate him from the vehicle.

Cory Whalen was contacted by a former client of his when he slipped on the running board of his truck and fell, injuring his knee and hip.  Unfortunately, not three months after signing the retainer agreement, a vehicle spun out in front of this same client, causing a severe collision and causing additional neck injuries to the man.  Multiple accidents unfailingly result in complications for the client as well as the attorney.  Whalen, however, was up to the challenge.

A 32 year-old father was killed in an ATV accident in Nebraska. The accident occurred at night and the driver of the ATV had been drinking. The deceased was a passenger on the ATV. The driver "popped a wheelie" with the ATV, hit a tent stake along side of the road and the ATV rolled and killed the passenger.

Nothing tugs at one's heart like a family who has lost a parent and a spouse. That's exactly what Cory Whalen thought when he took this case. A tragic motorcycle-verses-motor vehicle collision took the life of a father of two young girls. The father was killed instantly and the mother was left to raise two children alone.

A semi traveling in poor winter driving conditions was unable to see the vehicle in front of him due to blowing snow. Traveling with 40,000 pounds of sausage in the trailer, he rear-ended our client's car and the car stuck to the front of the semi. The two entwined vehicles traveled together as he braked, finally coming to a stop in the ditch. Our client loss consciousness and has no memory of the accident at all. Our client sustained severe injuries from this accident, including cognitive difficulties following her head injury.

One woman's life was turned upside-down when she was in a severe motor vehicle accident. She was a back-seat passenger when the vehicle was T-boned by an inattentive driver. The insurance company offered $45,000 to settle her claim and refused to increase their offer, even after this woman underwent a spinal fusion as a result of her injuries.

Our client was riding his Harley Davidson west on Highway 12. He saw the defendant stopped at the intersection and as he went by, she turned into him, striking him on the left side of his motorcycle. As a result of the collision, he crushed 3 bones in his left foot and fractured the ankle. He had two surgeries and has permanent injuries from the accident.

Everyone wants their wedding reception to be memorable and exciting. Opportunities for unique entertainment open up when one hosts their own wedding reception at a private residence. However, one would-be form of entertainment turned dangerous when two men filled a freezer full of explosives and shot it with a rifle. The freezer exploded but the wedding crowd was much too close. The mens' antics caused a severe injury when a young woman, a guest at the reception, was caught in the throat by a piece of flying shrapnel.

Our client watched in dismay as a vehicle suddenly crossed the center line on icy roads directly in front of his vehicle. With nowhere to go, the two vehicles collided head-on.  Our client sustained severe injuries, including facial injuries, a broken arm, fractured ribs and a fractured spine.  He also sustained head injuries, complete with a mild traumatic brain injury.

A young woman and her boyfriend were driving one summer evening to a campground. Without warning, a driver heading the opposite direction crossed the center line. The boyfriend tried to swerve to avoid the collision but their vehicle was hit head-on.

Three teens were traveling home on a dark, gravel road. The driver was going too fast and lost control of the vehicle on a curve. Due to her inexperience, she hit the gas rather than the brake. The car went off the road and hit a tree. Our client's son was killed as a result of the accident and another passenger was severely injured and was in a coma.  The driver was not seriously injured.

What would otherwise seem like a typical rear-end accident was life-changing for one gentleman who will never again be the same. While stopped at a red light, this man was rear-ended while a passenger in his son's van. He received a severe back injury with nerve impingement and ultimately ended in a surgical fusion repair of his low back.

A young woman was injured when a man in a pick up truck ran a red light and T-boned her car, directly in to the driver-side door. She lost consciousness and her head hit the side window hard enough to shatter it. She was taken to the emergency room with severe injuries, including head, chest, jaw, hip, knee and foot injuries. She had lacerations along the left side of her face.

The Christmas Eve that hosted this accident was anything but silent and calm. Icy roads produced treacherous driving conditions and a semi overturned in the middle of the freeway. Our client and her fiancee, behind the semi, managed to stop before striking the semi. Multiple other vehicles veered into the ditch to avoid him. However, our client's vehicle was struck while stopped, first by a car that came around the bend and was unable to stop and then by a second semi that slid on the icy roads and crashed in to our client's vehicle.

A two-year old boy was unfortunate enough to encounter the nasty side of his neighbor's dog when it bit him in the face. The dog's teeth hooked just under the young boy's eye and along the side of his mouth, resulting in multiple stitches and permanent scarring.

A young woman sustained permanent ankle injuries when involved in a motor vehicle accident in 2005.  Seven years after the accident date, her attorney eventually sought out Cory Whalen to take over representation for her case.

Our client was a young teenage boy that was visiting the home of a classmate. While at the home, the boy was bitten in the face by the family dog. Unbeknownst to the child's parents, several children had been bitten by this dog in the past. Unfortunately, the owner chose to allow the dog to run free in their home, despite its propensity for viciousness.

One of the very first drunk driving fatalities in 2008 was the tragic tale of the Minnesota police officer who had his wife with him for a "ride along" on New Year's Day. In the early hours of the morning, a young woman was driving her vehicle on the wrong side of the freeway and struck his vehicle head-on, killing the officer's wife almost instantly. The woman who struck the police vehicle was so drunk that she couldn't even remember the accident.
