Tell Congress To Protect Our Rights!
Having represented injured people for nearly 30 years has allowed me the opportunity to see first hand how important it is that average citizens in this country have the right to hold corporations and insurance companies accountable in a court of law. Without accountability safety is seriously compromised. I’m writing this blog to tell you that some in Congress are pushing legislation right now that will severely restrict that right in cases of medical malpractice and nursing home abuse.
And that’s only the beginning.
This bill (and several more like it) will rig the system against individuals like you and tip the scales in favor of powerful corporate defendants.Of course, those pushing these proposed laws - all backed by major business interests - are telling Americans that these measures are necessary to deter greedy patients from exploiting doctors and health care for personal gain. They say that limitations on lawsuits will keep healthcare costs down by reducing the amount of money paid out on medical malpractice claims and insurance. But we can tell you from personal experience that the hundreds of Minnesotans that come to us every year with serious injuries are not “greedy,” and their claims are not “frivolous.” In fact, several studies make clear that preventable medical errors are now a leading cause of death in the United States after heart disease and cancer.Legislation like this will do nothing to address the real problem, the epidemic of medical errors and nursing home abuse, but instead increase corporate profits while stripping you of your rights. We need to send a strong message to Congress that these anti-civil justice bills must fail. If you agree that it is unacceptable for Congress to eliminate your rights to hold corporations accountable, we urge you to contact your Minnesota Congressperson and Senators today. Tell your representative to stand up for you and your family and vote NO on offensive anti-civil justice legislation. As easy way to find the contact information for your elected officials in Washington is to visit this link posted by Take Justice Back.
