SiebenCarey and IBEW Local 292 Team Up for 2024 Ribfest Competition
The second annual Yellow Ribbon Ribfest drew hundreds of visitors for a full day of union camaraderie, great music, and a delicious rib-tasting competition that included a first-time team of "chefs" from SiebenCarey and Local 292 IBEW Electrical Workers.
Ribfest 2024, held on Saturday, Sept. 21, was launched last year by the Minnesota Building Trades to benefit veterans, service members, and military families through the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon program. SiebenCarey is a Silver Sponsor of Ribfest, joining dozens of other prominent businesses in raising thousands of dollars during the event.
"We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day to cook ribs and say hello to all our friends in organized labor," said Ian Carey, SiebenCarey investigator, decorated Army veteran, and Board Member of the Building Trades Beyond the Yellow Ribbon committee. "We also raised significant money to help the families of deployed service members and veterans with home repair projects and other services."
Joining Ian on team IBEW-SC were John Kripotis, 292 business manager, Jim Carey, SC managing partner, and Nick Carey, SC attorney. Friends and family also pitched in to help serve ribs and greet visitors with smiles and laughter.
It turns out the IBEW-SC team may also have a future in barbeque competition: Their ribs placed sixth overall, and the chicken eighth. Not bad for a first-time appearance!
