Speeding
Speeding remains a leading cause of accidents and fatalities on Minnesota roads, especially in rural areas and on highways. In 2020, roughly one-third of all traffic fatalities involved speeding.
Several factors make speeding particularly dangerous:
- Higher risk of losing control: Speeding makes it challenging to handle curves, avoid obstacles, or stop in time.
- Reduced reaction time: Drivers have less time to detect and respond to sudden road hazards.
- Longer stopping distance: The faster you drive, the more distance is needed to bring your vehicle to a complete stop.
- Severe impact: The force of a crash increases exponentially with speed, leading to more severe injuries and fatalities.
